As part of the 2022 West Virginia Katherine Johnson Day celebrations, the Greenbrier Historical Society in Lewisburg, WV invites students in Grades 6-8 to creatively visualize Katherine Johnson's story in the 2022 GHS "Reaching for the Moon" Graphic Art Contest. A first place, second place, third place, and honorable mention winner will be selected from all entries. Landon Litten, Camden Spade, and Adam O'Brien from Warm Springs Middle School will be inducted as Knights of the Golden Horseshoe at a special celebration at the WV Culture Center in Charleston on June 14, 2022. Students have been honored for this prestigious award since 1931 by demonstrating exceptional knowledge of WV History on the state-administered exam. Landon, Camden, and Adam will be joining 221 other winners from across the state. Congratulations!

The West Virginia Advisory Council for the Education of Exceptional Children (WVACEEC) will meet at West Virginia School for Deaf and Blind in Romney, West Virginia. Meeting date is Thursday, April 28, 2022, starting at 8:30 a.m. The Public is Invited. The virtual link is here: Click to Join WVACEEC The West Virginia Advisory Council for the Education of Exceptional Children is a non-partisan advisory panel authorized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a Federal law and by State Board of Education Policy 2419. The purpose of the Council is to identify systemic issues and concerns regarding the education of exceptional children in West Virginia. Exceptional children include students with disabilities and gifted students as defined by the IDEA and Policy 2419. The Council’s responsibilities include holding public meetings in all regions of West Virginia, collecting information from local and state sources and making an annual report to the State Board of Education and others regarding the unmet needs of exceptional children. The agenda will include reports from the West Virginia Department of Education regarding special education programs, data results and outcomes of specific projects and initiatives. Local and regional administrators of special education will provide updates of their accomplishments and challenges. Other agencies and individuals are invited to provide additional perspective on their collaborative work with schools and the community. The public is welcome and invited to share news and concerns regarding the education of exceptional children.
