Pumpkin Drop Competition
Mr. Brode’s Science classes will be holding our third Pumpkin Drop Competition on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Students have been working in small groups to design an enclosure to protect a pumpkin from damage when dropped from high altitudes. We will be dropping the creations from the roof of the A-Building onto concrete. A secure area will be marked and every safety precaution will be taken to ensure the safety of anyone in the area. Each team has extensively researched other designs as they collaborated to create their own. This project has involved every area of S.T.E.M. (SCIENCE, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Students are requesting materials to complete their project. Essentially, they need a box with something to cushion the pumpkin. Some groups are going to need materials for a parachute. The items can be in any condition. This is an opportunity to get rid of some items that you are probably going to throw away. Below is a list of items that the students have requested. Other items that may be useful will be accepted.

Boxes – They should at least be large enough to hold a pumpkin with space to add
cushioning. Smaller boxes are still useful.
