The students created a backyard weather station complete with wind vane, barometer, and rain gauge. They looked up a picture of and description of different cloud types, then went outside to predict what the weather might be later in the day. They looked up the weather for Berkeley Springs over the last decade and created a double line graph to observe the weather pattern and determine if the current weather is within the norm. They defined the vocabulary that describes the tools they created and what each is used for. Then, as a group they built their weather stations from household materials, card stock, cardboard, and graduated cylinders. Their final step will be observing the wind, the changes in the barometric pressure and rain collection to measure rainfall.
